Who owns Guardian Caps? Erin and Lee Hanson are the owners of Guardian Caps. The parents of 5 started Guardian Caps in 2011 with one goal in mind – innovating equipment to better serve athletes. Their 20+ years of experience owning and operating a material science and technology company, The Hanson Group, enabled them to create The Guardian Cap. This project stems from our passion for player safety, foundation in material sciences and the generally accepted physics behind impact reduction.
Erin and Lee began the process consulting with another company on a fully encompassed soft-shelled helmet. They presented the helmet to football executives but did not get the buy in. Erin and Lee realized that changing the look and sound of the game was a big “no” for a lot of football players, fans, and coaches. They decided to take to market the affordable Guardian Cap that could be easily attached to the helmet during practices and taken off during games. They felt reducing impact in practice was a step in the right direction. Erin and Lee continue to run the business hands on with zero outside investors and a small full-time team. They believe that Guardian is their moral obligation to advance technologies to bridge the gap between the products that athletes deserve/need and what is currently available on the market.
