Cincinnati Bearcats WR Isaiah Johnson Donates Guardian Caps to Choctawhatchee High School

The Fort Walton Beach native makes an impact on and off the field by giving back to his alma mater.

University of Cincinnati wide receiver Isaiah Johnson made a meaningful gesture toward his hometown in March 2026, donating Guardian Caps to the Choctawhatchee High School football program in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, the school where he got his start.

Guardian Caps are soft-shell helmet covers designed to reduce the impact of head collisions. They’ve become an increasingly popular player safety tool at all levels of football, but for many high school programs working with tight equipment budgets, they aren’t always easy to come by. Johnson’s donation puts the latest in helmet safety technology directly into the hands of the next generation of Choctawhatchee Indians players.

It’s a full-circle moment for the junior Bearcats wideout. Johnson grew up in Fort Walton Beach, played football at Choctawhatchee, and went on to become a college football player at Cincinnati. Now, as a rising contributor in Cincinnati’s offense, he’s using his platform to invest back into the program that contributed to the player he is today.

The donation carries extra weight given that Johnson made history as the first University of Cincinnati player to wear a Guardian Cap in a game. He didn’t just advocate for player safety from the sidelines, he led by example on the field, and then extended that commitment to the high schoolers coming up behind him.

For a player navigating in a Power 5 program while the Bearcats make their Big 12 debut, taking time to give back to a Florida high school says a lot about his priorities. Isaiah Johnson is worth watching — on the field and off it.
