Top 5 PEARL FAQs

At PEARL, our team not only values consistency, performance and precision –but we also care about transparency. No question is a wrong question, which is why we’re breaking down the answers to some of our top FAQs.

Q: What makes PEARL X different from other lacrosse balls?

A: We’ve innovated a unique chemistry and manufacturing process that sets PEARL apart from standard lacrosse balls.

To get all sciencey and nerdy with you: traditional lacrosse balls are made from vulcanized rubber with chemical plasticizers to soften them. In contrast, PEARL X, DUAL X and NX balls are crafted from a crosslinked compounded elastomer, with no chemical plasticizers involved.

Here’s what that means for performance:

PEARL X - White

Say goodbye to greasy lacrosse balls.

Chemical plasticizers in rubber balls break down over time – especially in heat, sun, moisture and friction – leading to that slippery, greasy texture that hinders passes and shots. PEARL X balls avoid this entirely by using a crosslinked elastomer, which keeps the surface texture consistent.

The material in PEARL X won’t harden or degrade over time like vulcanized rubber (the same type used in car tires).

Say hello to a longer lifespan.

While ball lifespan can vary, PEARL X, DUAL X, and NX balls are designed to never grease or harden, so you won’t have to toss them for that reason.

Some customers are still using PEARLs they bought back in 2015 — really!

If your PEARL gets dirty, just wash it with dish soap and water to clean off any buildup.

Q: What makes PEARL NX different from other training lacrosse balls?

A: The Guardian Team wanted to create a training ball that doesn’t affect muscle memory and allows you to practice like you play. PEARL NX lacrosse balls are the same size, weight and feel as PEARL X and LT official game balls, so players no longer have to practice with a lacrosse ball that’s heavier, smaller or harder.

Q: Who is PEARL the official ball of?

A: PEARL is proud to be the official ball of the PLL, WLL, NCAA Championships, MCLA and CIF.

Q: What are the benefits of PEARL X Optic Yellow?

A: PEARL X Optic Yellow is the official game ball color of the PLL and was developed to dramatically improve visibility.

From fans in the stands to players on the field and viewers at home, everyone sees the ball better. It’s brighter, bolder and easier to track — changing the game for how lacrosse is watched and played.
