Matchups of the Week
Football season is in full swing and our team at Guardian couldn’t be more excited! As summer turns into fall, friends, family, and fans are packing out stadiums to watch the great game of football. There are a lot of awesome games happening this weekend, and we want to share some of our favorite matchups. Wherever you are, we wish your team, players, and coaches all best of luck this weekend! Play hard and leave it all on the field!
Collins Hill High School (GA) #8 National Ranking vs. East Coweta High School (GA)
We kick off our matchups of the week highlighting the Collins Hill Eagles and East Coweta Indians. Both teams have had a successful start to the season (5-0), but only one team will walk away undefeated.
Collins Hill enters the game as the #1 team in GA, and # 8 ranked team in the nation. The Eagles early success this year can be attributed to two of their standout stars, Travis Hunter and Sam Horn. Hunter (CB) is the #2 ranked player in the nation and committed to Florida State University. Horn is a class of 2022 top 10 QB and committed to Missouri.
East Coweta has had a great opening 5 games. The Indians’ defense has shutout 3 of their 5 opponents, and only allowed 37 points through the year. In 2020, the Indians knocked off the Eagles in a close overtime victory, so we know this will be a very exciting rematch!
Chandler High School (AZ) #12 National Ranking vs Liberty High School (AZ) #5 in State
Chandler High School is one of the best programs in high school football. The Wolves, led by Coach Rick Garretson, have won 5 consecutive state championships. Chandler has two of the top 5 players in the state. Kyion Grayes (WR) is committed to Ohio State, and Quaron Adams (RB) is headed to Iowa State. Along with Princeton commit Nason Coleman (TE), the Wolves have a stacked offensive lineup.
Liberty High School started off the season with an impressive 74-27 win over Mountain Ridge. The Lions went on to score over 40 points in their following two games. In 2020, Chandler beat Liberty in a 35-34 overtime finish. This is going to be a game that you don’t want to miss!
Thompson High School (AL) #5 National Ranking vs. Mountain Brook High School (AL) #5 in State
Thompson High School has developed an impressive list of elite football players. Jeremiah Alexander (Alabama commit) and Trequon Fegans (Miami Commit) are two of the top five players in the state and will be lining up on the Warriors defense. Thompson high school is currently ranked the #5 team in the nation and reigning state champs.
Mountain Brook High School is the #5 ranked team in the state of Alabama. The Spartans had a tough loss to Thompson in 2020 but have had a fantastic start to the 2021 season with 5 convincing wins. This is going to be a great matchup between two talented football teams.
Texas A&M #7 vs. Arkansas #16
Texas A&M and Arkansas will square off in AT&T Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30pm CT.
Both teams enter the game undefeated at 3-0. The Aggies are currently a 6-point favorite, but the Razorback offense has put up impressive numbers all season. Arkansas currently averages 41 points per game, which is tied for 4th in the SEC.
The Aggies have only given up 2 touchdowns all season, which will make this a great matchup. Jimbo Fisher is off to his best start since taking over the program in 2018. Sam Pittman, one of the nation’s premier recruiters, has built an impressive program since taking over prior to the 2020 season.
We think this will be a fantastic game full of top talent on both sides of the ball.
