A 5-star rating is the highest mark awarded by Virginia Tech’s Helmet Lab, one of the most trusted independent helmet safety programs in the world. The ratings are completely free from manufacturer influence.
Each product endures 36 impact tests — front, side, and back, at three energy levels — measuring both linear and rotational forces. The STAR score shows how much the headgear reduces concussion risk versus wearing nothing at all.
The STAR values range from 0 to 1, with a lower score indicating better helmet performance- and LOOP received a STAR value score of 0.02 out of 1.0.
